Netflix Says This Is All Done

Netflix has announced that DVD By Mail is going to end in September. It will have been 25 years since they started.

I remember hearing radio commercials about it for the longest time and thought it would be neat to have a revolving supply of movies coming to the house, although the idea of having to remember to send them back seemed daunting for some reason. I always meant to sign up and never did.

I think it was late 2009 when we subscribed to Netflix streaming for the first time. At the time I didn't make the connection that they were the same company that was sending people DVDs.

To this day, some people really love this service. And DVDs are still being rented from kiosks. So when it ends later this year, people will be forced to consume media a different way.

In addition, Netflix also announced that they are rolling out their paid sharing plan soon - which is a nice way of saying that you can no longer share your password for free. They've been experimenting with it in other countries and so far it seems to be a success.
