Milwaukee Women Make And Sell Their Own Teas In West Allis

I'm a huge supporter of local, family businesses because I come from one and know how difficult it can be. Especially with a retail store to have it be continually successful in a world with stores like Target and Walmart as well as online shopping. I also find it impressive when someone takes a product they love and starts their own business to share it with everyone else knowing the "blood, sweat and tears" they'll have to put into it. For my Make It Through Monday moment, powered by Winkie's Hallmark & Gifts, I wanted to share the story of Aisha and Shiree. Aisha and Shiree Henry were ready for the challenge of a small business when they opened up their new tea shop called Swaye' Tea. It is located at 7326 W. Greenfield Avenue in West Allis and just opened on September 12, 2019. Swaye means to heal in Haitian Creole and they came up with the name due to Shiree's own health issues. She had been suffering from acid reflux for many years and being a military spouse she could only see certain specialists which were really hard to get into due to their limited openings. She started researching ways to help herself and came back to the old days when herbs were the way to fix your health issues. They ended up being relocated to the Milwaukee area in August 2018 and decided to work on opening a place of their own to sell their teas. You can read more on their tea shop as well as Aisha and Shiree's personal story on military life, etc. from the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel.

Winkie's Hallmark & Gifts is also a locally owned family business and it shows every time you step through their doors. The staff is so friendly and they really take the time to fill their shelves with items their customers love. They of course have rows and rows of cards for every single holiday and situation, more candles than you can even imagine, a delicious candy counter and also items you've never seen any place else. The store has been thriving for three generations because of all the love and hard work they put into it which their customers see and reminds them of why they keep returning. Winkie's Hallmark & Gifts is located at the corner of Silver Spring and Lake Drive in Whitefish Bay.
