This Week's Weird News 2/25/22

A groundbreaking study which suggests that our lives do flash before our eyes before we die, a 'man-goat' sighting, and the world's heaviest strawberry were among the strange and unusual stories to cross our desk this past week.

An apocryphal and oft-cited experience cited by those who nearly cross over to the 'other side' is that their life flashes before their eyes and this past week brought tantalizing news that the phenomenon may actually be real. The remarkable insight came about by accident when doctors were treating a patient with epilepsy and had him hooked up to an electroencephalogram. The patient then unexpectedly died of a heart attack during their examination, which inadvertently provided the first-ever brain wave recording of an individual as they died. The data turned out to be astounding as the man's mental activity showed possible signs of memory retrieval 30 seconds before and after his death.

This past week saw multiple instances in which motorists encountered something truly out of the ordinary, beginning with an incident in England wherein a driver spotted a six-foot-tall bipedal 'goat-man' dash across the road in front of their car. What exactly the weird entity was is anyone's guess. Then in Denmark, a man could not believe his eyes when he went out for a morning drive and saw a loose kangaroo hopping through a field. Fortunately the bewildered witness managed to film the sighting, lest people think he was telling a tall tale. And, finally, a motorist in Australia captured footage of a bizarre creature, thought by some to be the extinct thylacine, scrambling down a city sidewalk.

A Israeli farmer found himself celebrating this past week when he was officially awarded the title of having grown the world's heaviest strawberry. A staggering five times the size of an average berry, the monstrous fruit measures an astounding 10 ounces and boasts a jaw-dropping circumference of 13 inches. Proudly posing with the massive strawberry in the palm of his hand, Chahi Ariel indicated that he had waited months for the record to officially be accepted by Guinness and marveled that "it was an amazing feeling" when he heard that the weird yield had made the proverbial cut. As for the strawberry itself, Ariel had kept it frozen until unveiling it to the world once the record was finally announced.
